The infested area has more than 500 nurseries that have signed a compliance agreement allowing them to deliver plant material to non-infested areas of the state. All shipments destined for non-infested areas of the state are subject to extensive review and, if necessary, treatment. These certified loads are often checked before sale by county farm inspectors in the host nursery. Current reduction procedures have been the most frequent phase of GWSS life (over 90%) during the checks of the nursery are the eggs. Bite stocks that are established to contain a viable life phase at their destination are generally returned to the original nursery. Starting in the 2005 season, county agriculture commissioners will complete or enter into compliance agreements with shippers who comply with this situation but no longer issue yellow or green certification labels. Shippers must continue to meet regulatory requirements by transporting mass containers containing grapes free of the glassy sniper. For more information on mass grape movements, please contact your local farm manager. SEVERAL municipalities informed the Ministry of Food and Agriculture that the detention exemption for the shipment of certain types of nurseries, authorized by Section 6504 of the Food and Agriculture Code, was being abolished. This action was taken to protect the county agricultural industry, particularly the grape industry, from the introduction of Homalodisca coagulata, the glass sniper (GWSS), vector of Xylella fastidiosa, the urn venom of Pierce`s disease, from gwSS-infected counties.
